Practice Areas

Christian A. Patrizia is a client-focused, responsive Virginia attorney who builds trusting and long-lasting relationships with his clients. He practices in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, trademark, taxation, business formation, succession planning, and non-profit law. Prior to moving to Charlottesville, Christian practiced in the Washington D.C. area before moving to a practice in Bethany Beach, Delaware. He has now found his forever home here in Central Virginia. Christian enjoys working through complex legal issues utilizing his intellectual acumen and creative problem solving to craft tailored solutions to his clients’ needs and objectives. His clients include individuals, businesses, artists, and non-profit organizations throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Christian works with his clients to provide efficient and informative advice, while assuring his clients have the right information to make choices that will best implement their goals and wishes. His clients appreciate his compassionate and empathic approach as he assists them with their important life decisions.

Mr. Patrizia is a native of the Washington D.C. area. He received his B.A. in Psychology from The College of William & Mary. While attending university, Christian embarked on Semester at Sea — a 26,000 mile journey around the globe on a ship while studying cross-cultural psychology. After college, Christian moved to Argentina where he attended La Universidad de Buenos Aires and studied Castellano and Argentine culture and history. He received his Juris Doctorate from George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School. While attending law school, Christian studied abroad in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik while working on issues related to accession to the European Union.

Outside of the office, Mr. Patrizia serves on the board and as General Counsel of Rooftop Roots, a non-profit organization that creates gardens and edible greenscapes on under-utilized space in urban areas, providing produce to area food banks, and creating educational and work programs for the community it serves. In his spare time, Christian enjoys reading, being outdoors with his wife, skiing, hiking, and especially fly-fishing.

Typical Clients

Estate Planning – Christian helps clients to plan for their long-term financial security and well-being. He helps individuals to analyze their estate in order to find the best means of transferring assets, eliminating or minimizing taxes, establishing guardianship for children or other dependents, supporting charitable giving, and protecting future generations of family. He is an expert in creating Wills, Trusts, and other documents that govern one’s estate after death. He crafts Durable Powers of Attorney, and Advanced Medical Directives to ensure that his clients have an agent to speak for them should they be incapacitated during their lifetime. He also helps clients to revise and update their current or legacy estate plans through appropriate changes to their Wills or Trusts.

Estate Administration – Christian assists his clients by guiding them through the required tasks of settling the estate of a family member or loved one. Christian will assist in preparing accurate inventories of assets and subsequent accountings that must be presented to the probate court. He assists in the payment of creditors, sometimes through the liquidation of assets or sale of real property. Depending on the complexity of the estate, he can administer the entire estate on behalf of the executor/personal representative, or assist on a consulting basis, providing counsel and legal guidance as the client works through the probate process in Virginia. He also represents beneficiaries, excluded heirs, personal representatives or the estate in resolving or litigating probate disputes.

Non-Profits – Christian advises non-profit organizations and their boards on a wide array of issues, including: Non-profit formation and initial filings, life-cycle and management, charitable contributions, executive compensation, unrelated business income tax, and compliance with IRS regulations applicable to charities and foundations.

Taxation – Christian represents clients throughout central Virginia in tax matters, including: IRS administrative proceedings, Offers in Compromise, Abatement of Penalties, installment payment agreements, releases of levies and liens, and non-collection status.
